About Claremore, Oklahoma: Birthplace of a Legend

Claremore rests along the 1926-1985 alignment of Route 66 in Rogers County, where Historic Route 66 and OK-88 weave through a community rich in cultural heritage. Founded in the 1830s by the Cherokee Nation and incorporated in 1883, the town is best known as the birthplace of Will Rogers (1879-1935). Rogers was an actor, humorist, vaudeville performer, political commentator, and one of the most quoted Americans of the early 20th century.

The Will Rogers Memorial Museum, opened in 1938, preserves his legacy through extensive exhibits, personal artifacts, and film footage that celebrate his wit, wisdom, and connection to Oklahoma. Visitors can explore his life story while enjoying sweeping views of the surrounding landscape.
