About Countryside, Illinois: Where City Limits Meet the Mother Road
Countryside is a Cook County community situated on the historic Route 66 corridor along Joliet Road, making it one of the first westbound waypoints after Chicago. The City officially incorporated in 1960, evolving from farmland into a welcoming suburban stop for travelers.
In the 1910s, the Marx Brothers briefly owned a chicken farm near Joliet Road and La Grange Road. Groucho later joked that the farm failed because the brothers spent more time watching Cubs games at Wrigley Field than tending to the chickens - a cautionary story still told in Countryside to this day.
