Adrian, a quiet and unassuming town in the wide-open plains of the Texas Panhandle, holds one of the most celebrated distinctions on Historic Route 66: it marks the exact geographic midpoint of the legendary highway.
Located precisely 1,139 miles from both Chicago and Santa Monica. Adrian represents balance on the Mother Road: a symbol of progress, endurance, and the shared spirit of travelers heading both east and west. Mile Marker 1,139 and The MidPoint Café
The centerpiece of Adrian’s fame is the Midpoint Café, the town’s enduring roadside treasure. Originally opened in 1928 as a one-room diner, it proudly displays the sign that reads “Los Angeles: 1139 miles / Chicago: 1139 miles.”
