About St. Robert, Missouri: Route 66's Playful Pit Stop
St. Robert sits along the historic 1926-1977 alignment of Route 66 in Pulaski County, just off I-44. Incorporated in 1951, the town grew quickly as a service hub for travelers on the Mother Road, along with soldiers, families, and visitors tied to Fort Leonard Wood, the nearby U.S. Army installation established in 1940.
St. Robert earned its spot in Route 66 and Missouri history not with neon, but rather with a unique blend of roadside hospitality and modern attractions. The Liberty Lodge, a longtime motel, once glowed with classic neon before its closure, leaving behind vivid memories of mid-century road culture.
Today, the undisputed star attraction in St. Robert is the Uranus Fudge Factory. Located at 14400 State Hwy Z, this sprawling destination opened in 2015. More than just a candy store, Uranus Fudge Factory is known for its novelty shops, a sideshow museum and the highly popular "best fudge in Uranus."
Its constant, tongue-in-cheek humor and playful billboards have made it one of the absolute quirkiest stops on Route 66. Visitors can enjoy diner-style eats and snap photos with oversized astronauts. Don't forget to stop and check out another local favorite: the World's Largest Belt Buckle.
The St. Robert Route 66 Neon Park will be the first-of-its-kind to be developed on the Mother Road and will feature restored Route 66 neon signs in an outdoor park-like setting with information to inform park visitors about the history of each sign.
St. Robert also joins the broader Pulaski County Route 66 celebrations, with nearby Waynesville hosting the annual Route 66 Hogs & Frogs Festival. Classic cars, live music, and retro flair keep the Mother Road vibe alive-and St. Robert's blend of military pride and roadside fun makes it a must-see stop for travelers chasing history and a bit of humor.
