About Moriarty, New Mexico: A Junction of Highways and Dreams
Perched at 6,200 feet on the sun-baked plains east of Albuquerque, Moriarty began in 1903 when rancher Michael Moriarty donated land for a railroad siding and post office. Wheat and pinto bean fields soon quilted the valley, and when Historic Route 66 barreled through in 1937, the town blossomed into a classic roadside stop.
Neon-lit cafés, Whiting Bros. service stations, and cozy motor courts welcomed travelers with glowing signs promising “Cook’s Hot Showers” after a long day on the two-lane highway.
