About Marshfield, Missouri: A High Point on Route 66

Marshfield is a proud Webster County community located along the original 1926-1954 alignment of Route 66. Sitting at 1,493 feet above sea level, Marshfield holds the title of the highest town on the Mother Road, east of the Rocky Mountains. Its lofty perch has long made it a refreshing and memorable stop for travelers driving through the Ozarks.

Beyond its geography, Marshfield is celebrated as the birthplace of astronomer Edwin Hubble, who was born here in 1889. Today, a full-scale replica of the Hubble Space Telescope stands in the town square, honoring its most famous son and connecting the town's heritage to the stars above.

Route 66 culture is alive in Marshfield as well, The Route 66 mural on Pine Street offers colorful storytelling of the highway's history, while community events like the Missouri Cherry Blossom Festival each April bring beauty and visitors in droves. In May, Marshfield joins the Red Carpet Corridor festivities, welcoming road trip warriors to experience its unique blend of history and hospitality.

With its sky-high elevation, scientific legacy and dedication to Route 66 preservation, Marshfield is more than a stop: it's a true high point of the Mother Road journey.
