About Funks Grove, Illinois: Where Tradition Runs Sweet

Funks Grove is a historic McLean County community along the 1926-1977 alignment on Route 66. Settled in 1824 by Isaac Funk, the grove quickly became known for its abundant sugar maples. That same year, the Funk family began producing maple sirup, a tradition that has continued for nearly 200 years. In 1891, they even trademarked the distinctive spelling "sirup," distinguishing their pure maple product from the more prevalent syrup which contains added sugars.

Today, the Funks Grove Maple Sirup Farm at 5257 Old Route 66 still taps over 800 trees each season, producing some of the purest maple sirup in the Midwest. Its iconic "Pure Maple Sirup" sign on Route 66 is a great photo opportunity for wanderers, while its farm invites visitors to bring a bottle of history home.

Funks Grove is more than just sirup. The Funks Grove Church and Cemetery, dating back to 1865, offer a quiet glimpse into the community's past. Each May, the town participates in the Red Carpet Corridor festivities, welcoming visitors to experience its natural beauty, delicious sirup and small town hospitality.

With its sweet heritage, peaceful woodlands and its timeless Route 66 charm, Funks Grove is a hidden gem and a true taste of the Mother Road. Don't miss the stop.
