About Farmersville, Illinois: A Neon Beacon of the Mother Road

Farmersville, Illinois is a small but proud Montgomery County community located along the 1926-1977 alignment of Route 66. Founded in 1832, and later incorporated in 1888, the town's agricultural heritage is anchored by the towering Farmersville Grain Elevator. But for travelers, Farmersville is best remembered for its roadside hospitality, symbolized by Art's Motel.

Opened in 1952 at 101 Main St., Art's Motel became a classic stop on the highway. Its neon sign and vintage cabins welcomed countless motorists during the heydey of Route 66. While the motel closed in 2005, and the restaurant later shuttered in 2021, its preserved sign remains a pilgrimage spot for Route 66 enthusiasts, standing as a nostalgic reminder of a simpler era on America's Main Street.

Farmersville keeps its history alive through events like the annual Red Carpet Corridor each May, inviting visitors to experience the culture and charm of Route 66 towns. Nearby, the Waggoner Road alignment reveals untouched pavement from the original highway, showcasing an authentic stretch of the Mother Road where travelers can truly step back in time.

With its enduring landmarks, deep roots and its neon legacy, Farmersville remains a classic Route 66 stop, where the glow of the past shines brighter than ever.
