About Erick, Oklahoma: Where the West Meets the Mother Road

Erick is a spirited community located in Beckham County along the historic 1926–1985 alignment of Route 66, where Historic Route 66 and OK-66 merge with the wide-open Western landscape. Founded in 1901, this small town is deeply rooted in authentic cowboy culture and cattle country. It proudly lays claim to the title of the "First Western Town on Route 66" as travelers head west.

Route 66 travelers have a wide variety of must-see stops in Erick. The town is home to the offbeat Sandhills Curiosity Shop (a hub of roadside quirkiness) and the Roger Miller Museum, a tribute to the legendary singer-songwriter, a hometown son who famously sang "King of the Road."

Adding historical depth, the 100th Meridian Museum (located at 101 S. Sheb Wooley Ave.) tells the fascinating story of the 100th Meridian Line, a historic boundary that stirred dust and disputes for over 166 years. Exhibits trace the meridian's role as a state divider, a landmark for surveys, and the traditional boundary where "the West begins."

Today, Erick keeps the spirit of the Mother Road alive through its classic Western flair, its roadside nostalgia, and its famously warm welcome for travelers embarking on the final stretch of Route 66 in Oklahoma.
