About Bristow, Oklahoma: The Mother Road's Woodland Queen

Bristow rests along the 1926-1985 alignment of Route 66 in Creek County. Founded in 1898 and named after Joseph L. Bristow, a Kansas senator, the town quickly transformed into a robust hub fueled by cotton farming and booming oil production in the early 20th century. Despite this industrial surge, it's tree-lined streets and surrounding oak and pecan groves earned it the picturesque, enduring nickname: "Oklahoma's Woodland Queen."

Travelers on Route 66 were greeted by classic roadside landmarks that recall a vibrant past. The 1920s Bristow Tire Shop, with its rugged vintage brick facade, stands as a tangible link to the heyday of service stations along the Mother Road. Nearby, the once bustling Skylark Motel, famous for its glowing neon sign, offers a fading but deeply nostalgic reminder of mid-century travel culture.

Bristow actually preserves this layered history through the Bristow Historical Society & Museum, housed in a beautifully restored 1923 railroad depot. Exhibits here vividly detail the town's interwoven story of the town's railroad, oil, and Route 66 heritage, allowing visitors to trace the evolution of the Mother Road's golden era.

Today, Bristow radiates community pride, hosting events that celebrate its diverse character, such as the Bristow Route 66 Car, Truck, Bike & Tractor Show and the beloved Tabouleh Fest, which honors the town's unique Lebanese heritage. Its harmonious blend of natural beauty, carefully preserved history and small town warmth ensures Bristow remains a genuine gem on the Mother Road, living up to its regal title as the "Woodland Queen."
