About Kingman, Arizona: Where Desert Highways Meet Route 66 History
Kingman is one of the most beloved stops on Route 66. The mining town is located in Mohave County, along the 1926-1979 alignment of the Mother Road. Established in 1882 as a key railroad hub, the town became a vital pit stop for travelers heading west. Today, the Arizona Route 66 Museum (known as the Historic Powerhouse) at 120 W. Andy Devine Ave. keeps the nostalgia alive with vintage cars, signage and memorabilia. Be sure to drive through the Kingman Route 66 Arch in the Powerhouse parking lot.
Each May, Kingman hosts the annual Route 66 Fun Run, attracting hundreds of classic cars for a three-day celebration of the open road. Outdoor lovers will enjoy nearby Hualapai Mountain Park, where scenic trails offer views of the high desert and beyond. Whether you're passing through on a road trip or soaking up the local history, Kingman is the beating heart of Arizona's stretch of Route 66.
