About Día de los Muertos and Route 66: A Cultural Journey
Día de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, is a cherished Mexican tradition celebrated on November 1 and 2. Families build ofrendas (home altars) with photos, favorite foods and bright orange cempasúchil marigolds to welcome the spirits of loved ones home. Far from somber, it's a celebration of life and memory that blends Indigenous traditions with the Catholic observances of All Saints' and All Souls' Days. The elegant skeleton known as La Catrina traces back to the early 1900s calavera prints of Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada. 🌸💫
Route 66 runs through regions rich in Mexican and Hispanic heritage, from Texas and New Mexico to Arizona and California. In Albuquerque, the South Valley's Muertos y Marigolds celebration holds its 34th annual Marigold Parade on November 1, 2026, at the Westside Community Center on Isleta Boulevard, the original pre-1937 alignment of Route 66.
This tank top captures that crossroads of culture and history. It's a wearable celebration of the Southwest's soul and Route 66's enduring legacy. And you'll look amazing in it too! 🛻🎨
